Welcome to our policy page!
The BANSW has implemented a full range of policies, codes of behavior, organisational guides, and information
documents that it implements to ensure the safety of our volunteers, the safety and integrity of our membership, and the
safety of young people within our movement.
Our Child Safe Policies and all related policies have been created in full consultation with the Officer of the Childrens Guardian (OCG).
Although BANSW does not work directly with young people and therefore does not fall under the Child Safe Scheme, we have created and adopted these policies and practices as a matter of best practice and leadership for our Movement and the industry.
The BANSW Management Committee has determined that all Management Committee members must have a current WWCC. A WWCC register is maintained and is available upon request.
For all band events run by the BANSW, any Youth and School band participating must provide a current WWCC for the Conductor / nominated person responsible for the members of that band.
These policies were most recently reviewed and updated in March 2025 and are grouped into three streams:
- Stream One: Policies adopted by the Band Association of NSW
- Stream Two: Policies that have been written for all bands to adopt with the addition of their band’s logo and name
- Stream Three: For Bands that fall under the NSW State Government ChildSafe Scheme
Stream One: Policies for BANDNSW

Stream Two: Policies for Bands Information
These are the policies that can be tailored to your band by simply downloading the document, adding in your band name where indicated and your band logo.
If your Community Band does not have a youth band program and is made up of 50% of adult members or more, your band DOES NOT come under the Child Safe scheme and does not require any Child Safe policies apart from the existing BANSW WWCC Advice policy.

Stream Three: Bands that Require Child-Safe Policies
If your Community Band has more than 50% or more members under the age of 18 years, is an Adult Band with a Youth Band or Youth Program as a part of that Band organisation, or is primarily a Youth Band, then your Band DOES come under the Child Safe Standards Scheme and the 10 Child Safe Standards will apply.
In addition to the general policies, your band must have read these 3 documents located under Information and Guides:
- Document 2 – What is a Child Safe band?
- Document 3 – Working With Children Checks
- Document 4 – Understanding Child Abuse
And, adopted and implemented the following:
- Child Safety Policy and Statement of Commitment
- Child Safe Code of Conduct
- Child-Friendly Complaints Procedure
- Child Safe Recruitment Policy
- Child Safe Reporting Policy and Procedures
- Child Safe Conductors Checklist
- Child Safe New Administrators Handover Policy and Checklist
- Child Safe Risk Management Plans
